There is special tool for Korean people to scratch ichy spot, so-called 효자손. 효자손 is literally the great grandson’s hand, which is wooden tool that scratches ichy spot on the body where arm is not reaching to. It is also found in other East Asian countries, used for the purpose.
In summer, when people are lied back, the back skin is ichy. Many grandparents feel this perception, grandson is scratching their back, it is replaced with the tool, so is named 효자손, where 효자(孝子) is great son, 손 is hand.
효자손 is made of bamboo wood, long stick shaped and the scratch side edge is manipulated to be round edge. It reaches out where hand is not reaching, to rubbing up and down to scratch the ichy spot.
This is easily found in stores where students go to school trip together, many students buy it to bring it at home.
It would be looked silly actions to use the tool. However, it would be another meaning of Korean 情 cultures, affection deepens between grandparents and their grandson, it is peculiar culture, when grandparents live their own home apart from grandson, the tool is special commodity used by them.
If you travel Korean traditional sites, stores have one of the tool, it would be special experiences when you buy it and bring it to home for use of it. The silliness would be fun to have. It is also useful for anyone other than Korean people, please boast of the use when you actually use it ^^ We are not monkey to do it each other, it is really useful tool for eliminating ichy perception.
